A full head highlight is an all over lightening service designed to add brightness, dimension, and a cleaner overall tone. It is ideal when you want a noticeable refresh across the whole head, while still keeping the finish blended and wearable for day to day.

More information

What a full head highlight delivers

A full head highlight refreshes colour from the top, sides, and back for a lighter, more luminous look.

  • Lightness and brightness throughout, not just around the hairline
  • Multi tonal dimension for a more natural finish
  • A cleaner, more even blonde or lighter brunette result
  • Optional toning to refine warmth or create a cooler, more polished tone
  • Placement tailored to your haircut, curl pattern, and styling habits

Who it suits best

This service works well if your current highlights have grown out, your colour looks flat, or you want a brighter result that shows through when your hair is worn up or styled in different ways. It suits straight, wavy, curly, and coily hair, with placement adjusted to how your texture sits and how you part and wear it.

How the appointment works

Your appointment usually takes 60 to 75 minutes. We will talk through your goal shade, your current colour history, and the level of contrast you want, then place foils through the full head to build consistent brightness. A toner may be used afterwards to perfect the shade and leave the finish looking intentional rather than brassy or dull.

Aftercare and maintenance

To keep highlights looking fresh, use a colour safe shampoo and a conditioner that supports moisture and elasticity, especially if you heat style or wear your hair naturally textured. Most clients book a toner or gloss between highlight services when they want a quick refresh, and plan full head highlights as part of a regular maintenance cycle depending on how fast their hair grows and how bright they like it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between full head highlights and half head highlights?
Full head highlights place foils throughout the whole head for a brighter overall result. Half head highlights focus on the top and sides, which can look softer and is often lower maintenance.
Will full head highlights work on curly, coily, or Afro textured hair?
Yes, they can. Placement and lightening strength should be tailored to your curl pattern, density, and how you wear your hair, with conditioning and careful timing to protect definition.
How light can I go in one appointment?
That depends on your starting colour, previous colour, and hair condition. The goal is to lift safely and evenly, then use toning to achieve the cleanest shade possible for that session.
How often should I book a full head highlight?
Many people return every 8 to 14 weeks, depending on regrowth and how bright they like the result. A toner or gloss between appointments can extend the look and keep the tone fresh.
Can I combine a full head highlight with a cut and finish?
Yes, it is often booked with a cut and blow dry so the shape and colour work together. If you are planning a big change, mention it when booking so enough time is allowed.
