Balayage cost in Manchester varies from salon to salon, and even within the same salon a fair quote can only really be given after a consultation. That's not us being awkward, that's just how colour works. What I can do here is walk you through what actually shapes the price, so you know what you're paying for before you sit in anyone's chair.

Length and thickness of your hair

More hair takes more product and more time. That's the single biggest variable on any colour price list, and it's the one people are least surprised by. A short bob and hair down to the waist aren't the same job, even when the technique is identical. Thick hair adds time too, because a good colourist works in finer sections through thick hair to make sure the lightener does its work evenly. If we rushed that, the finish would tell on you within a month.

The base colour you're starting from

Going from a natural mid-brown to a lived-in bronde is a very different appointment to going from a box-dyed black to blonde. If your hair has old colour in it, especially dark tones or previous highlights, it will need more work to lift cleanly. Some clients need two sessions spaced a few weeks apart to get there safely, and I'd always rather tell you that up front than push it through in one and end up with hair that isn't happy. A lift job priced as a single balayage will almost never look the way it's meant to on day one if the base isn't ready.

How far you want to lift

A subtle few shades brighter and a full bright blonde are different services in terms of both time and product. The higher and cleaner the lift, the more careful the placement, and the more toner and finishing work is needed to make the result actually wearable. That leads me on to the next point, which is the one most people forget to ask about.

Whether toner, gloss, or a bond treatment is included

A balayage that stops at the lift is only half the job. Toner controls the tone, whether you want cool, warm, or neutral. A gloss adds shine and depth through the mid-lengths. Bond-building treatments protect the hair through the lightening process, and we build them in as a matter of course. Some salons quote balayage with all of that included, others price it as add-ons. The total cost per year is what matters, not the single appointment price. A cheaper balayage that needs refreshing every eight weeks isn't really cheaper, and I've had clients arrive from other salons who've worked that out the hard way.
